Join The Shotgun Players for their Audio Description performance of "Wolf Play." The Shotgun Players are proud partners with Gravity Access to provide a pre-show "Haptic Tour" and live audio description for blind and low-vision audience members.
After purchasing your ticket, contact the box office by email at boxoffice@shotgunplayers.org, or call 510-841-6500 ext. 303 to let them know you will need a listening device for the audio described portion of the performance.
Audio Description: During the performance, patrons may use devices provided for free by Gravity Access to listen to a live audio description of the show. The narration guides the listener through the performacne with concise, objective descriptions of new scenes, lighting, costumes, facial expressions / body language, and "sight gags," all slipped in between portions of the actors' dialogue or songs.
Pre-Show Haptic Tour: The pre-show "Haptic Tour" allows patrons to experience the space, performers, costumes, and props through touch, their own movement, hearing, and kinesthetic senses. Usually lasting 20 to 30 minutes, these tours lay a multi-sensory foundation to support the audio description. Doors for the pre-show Haptic Tour will open at 3:45 PM for check-in. It is recommended to arrive early as the tour will begin promptly at 4:00 PM. The audio-described performance will start at 5:00 PM.
Highlights of the performance from The Shotgun Player Website:
What makes a family? In Wolf Play, we meet a young boy who feels more connection to wolves than people: "Wolves suck at being alone. Wolves need family." The play incorporates humor, puppetry, and sharply written dialogue in this tale of people grappling with questions of identity, trust, and parenthood. "There's an unruly quality to Jung's idea of what theater can be...It's thrilling to see that potential unleashed on the vagaries of love..." - New York Times.
Runtime is 1 hour 50 minutes.
